If you are getting internet explorer has stopped working/responding error message when you try to open your internet explorer or some other webpage and you simply want to know how to fix this problem then you are at the right place. In this short how-to article I will tell you what are the possible reasons behind this error message and appropriate solutions for them. Some of these tweaks can be applied manually and some requires a program called wise fixer. Ok. Here we go.

What is Internet Explorer has Stopped Working Error?

Actually there could be a lot of reasons. Mainly because incompatible add-ons, plug-ins, registry errors or may be a spyware or an adware. When internet explorer become unstable for whatever reason I mentioned, a pop up box appeared with error message “internet explorer has stopped working”. Actually this dialog box does not necessarily mean a browser error. It means something (a program, add-on, registry error or may be a virus) is conflicting with Internet explorer system process. So we need to identify that and cure appropriately.

Possible Reasons and Solutions

Remove Incompatible Add-ons and Accelerators

Internet Explorer Addons

Incompatible add-ons can cause internet explorer crashes. So first you need to try removing them. To remove these problematic plug-ins, simply go to Tools > Manage Add-ons and you will see the following window. As I highlighted in the screenshot, you only need to disable Tool Bars, Extensions and Search Accelerators. I suggest you to disable all of them and see it solve the issue or not. If it solves the error message then you can re-enable necessary add-ons one by one.

Enable Internet Explorer Built-In Script Debugging

Some complicated webpage elements (heavy java scripts and latest J-query libraries) conflict with Internet Explorer rendering engine. So we need to enable script debugging feature in IE. To do this, go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab and uncheck Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer) option.
